Madama Butterfly, Verona, Palazzo Camozzini
[ Autor Adrian Trasca ]
When you say Verona, you are thinking of Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet. If you add "opera music" in the phrase, the thought flies to Arena and the yearly festival which next year will be centenary. But there are other places in Verona where opera is taking places and one of this is Palazzo Camozzini.
Located in Via San Salvatore Vechio 6, near to Porta Borsari, build in 1516, Palazzo Camozzini organise opera shows in a small area, but with its advantages. I saw "Madama Butterfly" on 23rd of July, 2012. The show is performed in one of the palace`s rooms, which has kind of 100 square feet, does not benefit by full decors and only the main three characters are performed, but the framework gives an interesting mark. The walls are painted, but the initial sensation is that the statues are real! In a part there are the scene, in the other part there are the spectators and the closeness gives the specific of the show. As a spectator, you have the sensation that you are on the scene, that you are participating to the opera. Besides, when Cio Cio San came close to spectators and, looking into their eyes, sings "Un bel di vedremo", you are a part of the show! When can you watch Madama Butterfly in her eyes from only oen meter? When can you hate Pinkerton so close? (This can be a disadvantage if you want to punch him - and you don`t refrain! - for his actions! :-) )
The three main roles, Cio Cio San (Daniela Diomede), Pinkerton (Dario Di Vietri) si Sharpless (Ferruccio Finetti), were performed very well and with passion. The voices are good, exercised, and the opera is treated seriously, even it does not have an orchestrate. And from the small space and the high room gives an excelent frame for listening an opera. To see again! |
